L.E.S.T. is this week and there are many excited families and students dancing the halls of Concordia. This is a competition for Black and Cardinal teams held in Portland, Oregon that involves chess, music, drama, art, basketball, math, and a knowledge bowl. It seems as if we will have close to 50 people attending this event from Concordia, and probably close to 1300 students and families from around the northwest. There will be schools attending from California, Nevada, Idaho, Montana, Oregon, and Washington. The one relatively new award handed out at the opening ceremonies is the Champion of Character award. Every school Administrator was asked to recommend someone for this award. This is not a skill award it is a character award. If you were at the chili cook-off you remember that this recommendation was very difficult. We have an outstanding graduating class of young adults. Each one of them brings a special character to our school. The teachers and staff voted and it was too close to call. I then decided to have the Black and Cardinal teams vote after I explained to them that this was not a popularity contest. It was again very close but we did have a winner that will represent all of us magnificently. This student is and will continue to be a credit to his family and to Concordia. This student has been at Concordia since he was a teddy bear. Congratulations to Nate Hartman, who will represent all of us at Concordia Seattle, in front of more than a thousand people as a Champion of Character.
